To begin, make a magic ring or you can chain 2 and work your first round stitches into the first chain.

You can mark the beginning of each round by using a bit of yarn pulled through the first stitch.

inc: increase, which means make 2 sc in the same stitch
dec: decrease, which means work a decrease over 2 stitches. You can do an "invisible decrease" by working into the front loops only.
